Skills workshop 3: versatile actor dancers- Pina Baucsh

In this workshop I explored the unique art forms in the work created by the key practitioner Pina Bausch.  One skill I explored was the use of expression. At one point I was blindfolded with my hands tied together whilst doing a phrases I created based on a key theme Pina used which was fear, I had to show expression in my body language and by the way I was moving. This made me think of different ways to show expression not just in my face, I feel I did this effectively by moving at different paces and different levels to show fear. This skill is taken from one of her dances 'cafĂ© muller'. Another skill I explored was movement together. In this duo we put 4 counts of our phrases together to create our piece. We did this in unison. The little section before was us conveying emotion through our expressions I was showing care/love towards Honey and she was showing resentfulness towards me. We used another style of Pina where for example I was the object and Honey was moving my b...

Pina Bausch    Pina Baucsh uses a range of different art forms to show emotion in her dances. She uses modern/ post modern dance theatre. Tanztheatre is her company which she has created to make dancers be apart of the work which is being created by using past experiences. Pina wanted to show individuals experience through emotive gestures, 'I'm not so much interested in how people move but what moves them'.  Pina uses modern / post modern dance and dance theatre. The dance moves are abrupt to show the severity of the emotions they are feeling. She wanted to emphasise the fact that the dancers were objects on stage. Pina uses repetition of moves to highlight the emotion the dancers are feeling.  Pina Baucsh uses different emotions for example; Fear her aim is to not be afraid of fear but to confront it and work with different fears to show the feeling of the dancers. she wanted to show relationships between the dancers in her work.  Pina uses Stravinsky's musica...

Work shop one & two: versatile actor dances

In this workshop I explored the combination of dance and acting through characteristics and expression in the style of the practitioner Matthew Bourne.  One skill I explored was over expressiveness. The dancers used this a lot with their facial expressions and gestures. when creating my 'dream' phrase I took this into consideration and made sure I was over the top with my expressions. For example I made myself look scared by opening my eyes and mouth wide to show fear.  Another skill I used was unison. In the sweetie land performance we all did out pedestrian movements at the same time to seem like a dream and unrealistic.   Matthew Bourne's way of telling story through abstract moves and over the top expression influenced my work as I felt it was different to other dances as Matthew used pedestrian moves and acting to create unique work. The way Matthew Bourne changed the style to change the look nutcracker completely by emphasising the parts that aren’t in other product...
