  •     Matthew Bourne uses a Russian dance style to create the gobstoppers.

By using this variation of dance styles to create the sweets in dream land give a warm way of escaping reality and entering fantasy.

Matthew took the original idea of the nutcracker changed it to make it fun and change the way it is perceived.

 Historical practitioner
Frederick Ashton

He creates narrative ballet that has a plot and characters. He is seen as one of the pioneers of the creation of ballet. He uses character and humour in the same way that Matthew Bourne does. However he uses different dance style by using clogs. La Fille mal garde 1960 he uses the clog dance to combine the skill of dance and acting. This is similar to Matthew Bourne as he also uses dance and cation to show humour. There is contrast between the two practitioners as core de ballet by Fredrick Ashton the dancers are all female and they’re all on point and in Matthew Bourne’s dance the dancers are mixed genders and no one is dancing on point. In Ashton’s Façade 1931 he uses a gigolo to seduce the main character this also has the same effect as the knickerblockerglory from sweetie land from Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker.
